At North Florida School of Special Education we believe that art is both transformative and empowering. Anam Cara Creations is the art-enterprise program at the North Florida School of Special where artists with intellectual and developmental differences are able to develop their artistic abilities and create work that reflects and celebrates their unique perspective of the world around them. Anam Cara is the Gaelic word for soul friend. While working together to create art, meaningful connections are made that lead to lasting friendships.
Director of Anam Cara Creations, Jill Morrow, has been developing the program for four years by identifying students in Art Class who show interest in growing into their artistic potential. When students get to the Transition and Post Graduate programs, these individuals have an opportunity to go to the Anam Cara Creations art studio once or twice a week where they study their own style of art making such as painting, collage, mosaic, and sculpture. All Transition students go to Art Class on Friday where they design Anam Cara Creation products. Artwork that is created at the studio and in the Transition classes is now available to purchase online!
The online marketplace for Anam Cara Creations has products such as Gameday Bags, Mosaic Angels, Tiles, Notecards and Mosaic Windows. As new artwork is created the website will be updated so check back often for holiday art and other new products.
Please join us on for the inaugural Anam Cara Creations Holiday Art Show on Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1 at the NFSSE Transition House across the street from the main campus. This will be a chance to meet the artists and shop for the holidays from a selection of art from stocking stuffers to fine art pieces. We are grateful to all who have supported the Art Department at NFSSE are looking forward to developing exciting opportunities for our students at NFSSE.
