Academics & Transition
At North Florida School of Special Education, we are firm believers in the power of experiential learning, and we offer a wide variety of academic enrichment resources and extra-curricular activities that set us apart from other schools for students with intellectual and developmental differences.
We combine hands-on academics and classroom instruction with vocational training, job coaching, enrichment studies, independent living skills instruction, social skills instruction, art, music physical education as well as speech, occupational, and equine therapy to create an environment in which our students are nurtured, stretched and unified in their quest for knowledge of the world around them.
Another component in NFSSE’s holistic approach to education is our Culinary Arts and Horticulture Program for our Transition Students and Postgraduates, which takes place at NFSSE’s very own, on-campus organic farm, Berry Good Farms. Art with Soul is an art enterprise for young adults to create and sell beautiful art pieces. These programs prepare our older students to become contributing members of the community through vocational training and an understanding of basic life skills that will aid in meaningful employment in the future.
